THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS IN ENGLAND AND WALES
We are the City of London Livery Company for members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), a 150,000-strong professional body with a global reach. Only members of the Institute may become Members and we seek to promote in each generation the standards, skills and talents which our profession represents.
Our Company was originally created as an unincorporated Guild in 1975 and became a Livery Company in April 1977, with Ordinances approved by the Lord Mayor and Court of Aldermen, being 86th in the historic order of precedence of Livery Companies. Then on 6th September 2012 we were incorporated by a Royal Charter granted by Her Majesty The Queen.
As a Livery incorporated under Royal Charter, we raise large sums every year for a range of charitable causes, fund bursaries for doctoral students in the accountancy field, play a leading role in the governance of the local authority responsible for the City of London, organise lectures on topics of business interest, support specific units within the armed forces, and hold a variety of membership events to promote a sense of community and fellowship within the Company and the wider Livery world.
ICAEW is a world-leading professional membership body for chartered accountants, whose members provide advice on a wide range of business, finance and professional issues across the private, public and charitable sectors.
The Institute works towards a vision of a world of strong economies, by focusing on the future professional, connecting communities across the world and remaining agile. In support of this vision, ICAEW provides qualifications and professional development, shares knowledge and insight, and protects and advances the quality of the accountancy and finance profession.
As a Chartered body, ICAEW is committed to act in the public interest as well as for its members. It provides global thought leadership on issues relevant to achieving its vision in a sustainable way, and which prepares the profession to meet the challenges of the future. ICAEW is also committed to supporting and encouraging access to, and diversity within, both the Institute and the profession.
