THE LORD MAYOR’S OVERSEAS BUSINESS VISITS AND MEETINGS WITH OVERSEAS DELEGATIONS VISITING THE CITY OF LONDON
The Financial Services Group of Livery Companies supports the Lord Mayor in their role to promote the UK based financial, professional and associated business services industry (“the City”) on the Lord Mayor’s overseas business visits and meetings with overseas delegations in the City. Also, the Group supports the Lord Mayor’s with his annual theme which for 2014/15 is promoting creating wealth, giving time and supporting people.
The Lord Mayor would welcome hearing any pertinent issues to raise on either an overseas or inward business visit programme. An issue for overseas business visits should be made at least four weeks before the visit to the Head of International Affairs in the Economic Development Office of the City of London Corporation. The Head is currently Peter Sissons firstname.lastname@example.org
For inward business visits you should contact the programme managers at the Lord Mayor’s office Eaman Awan (email@example.com
) or Tanisha Aggarwal or(firstname.lastname@example.org
). In either case, they will need a contact name, an organisation name, an email address, the nature of the interest, a brief description of the issue (two pages at most) with key points to be made and any desired outcome.
Overseas business visits for 2014 - 2015 include India, Ireland, The Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar), Burma, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Azerbaijan, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong and Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique and Kenya or South Africa). Overseas business visits are planned well in advance and places to attend events and seminars are limited. Also, places to accompany the Lord Mayor on his meetings with local ministers are more narrowly selected.
To check the exact date of these overseas business visits go to http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk
and follow the links to the “Lord Mayor’s role” and overseas visits programme.
The broad aims of these overseas business visits include:
- To promote the UK financial, professional, maritime and associated business services industries and the international expertise of the City of London;
- To support bilateral commercial and political relations;
- To demonstrate the importance of the City of London to the Financial Sector in key destination markets as a leading global financial centre, a provider of liquidity and a model of best practice;
- To promote London as a centre of excellence for business, education, training and professional qualifications; and
- To promote current areas of business interest.
At present, a number of institutions and trade associations are consulted ahead of these visits and the City of London would welcome additional input to capture the views of financial services practitioners and individual firms, detailing the challenges and opportunities present in the markets that the Lord Mayor will visit.
If a Liveryman or a partner or senior executive of his or her firm, wishes to participate in an overseas business visit, he or she should contact Peter Sissons at the email address shown above at least 12 weeks before the visit. Please note that the proposed participant will be required to provide his or her name, email address and telephone number, as well as the reason for the interest in the country to be visited, the main objectives for his or her involvement and the key outcomes he or she would like to see delivered.
With inward visits – some 50 in the year – the Lord Mayor would welcome a wider representation from the City to be available to meet incoming delegations, make presentations and raise issues relevant to the delegation. For a Liveryman or a partner or senior executive of his or her firm to receive alerts of incoming delegations, contact either Eaman Awan or Tanisha Aggarwal at the email addresses shown above.
